Out Astoria November Happy Hour at Bear

Bear Restaurant and BarThursday, November 12, 7pm
Bear Restaurant and Bar
12-14 31st Avenue, Astoria, NY

Hot on the heels of our upcoming pre-Halloween party at Albatross, we’re pleased to announce the venue for our next weekeday happy hour, and it’s going to be at one of Astoria’s classiest LGBT-owned restaurant and bar.

Bear, owned by out and proud lesbian Natasha Pogrebinsky (also the executive chef!), is located in the up and coming southwest corner of Astoria, right near Socrates Sculpture Park. A pleasant stroll from all Queens/boro Plaza trains, the N/Q line 30th Avenue and Broadway stops, or the Q18/Q19/Q69/Q100/Q104 bus routes.

The venue is offering up an intimate extended happy hour with $5 beer, wine, and shots all evening. In addition, enjoy their fall-themed selection of signature drinks including a Maple-Rosemary Hot Toddy, Pumpkin Beer, Bear Bloody Mary, Honey & Thyme Cocktail, and more!

Order a la carte from their standard dinner menu, or Bear will be serving up a variety of bar nibbles at special prices for our group:

$4 Deviled Eggs
$5 Burgers
$5 Polish Boy Mini Hot Dogs
$7 Savory Pies
$12 Bowl of Siberian Dumplings
$15 Bowl of Ukrainian Pierogies
$5 Desserts

We’ll also be hosting a raffle with a first prize of dinner for 2 with a cocktail pairing. All in an atmosphere replete with throw-back classic pop music and movies.

Put this evening on your calendar now, and step out for a fine evening at one of our favorite foodie hangouts.

NOTE: This venue is cash only, so please remember to visit your favorite ATM on the way from the train.

Before heading home to celebrate Thanksgiving, come join your neighbors for a drink at Icon.

ADDITIONALLY, we will be collecting goods for the at-risk LGBTQ youth at The Hetrick-Martin Institute. Bringing a donation or giving a monetary donation will earn you a free drink! We will have someone from Hetrick-Martin there to share a little about how you can help at-risk and homeless LGBTQ youth as the cold months draw in. Please see the list below for ideas of items to bring.

Drink Specials, Food, DJ, and Dancers
Alejandro, the new manager, of Icon will be extending Happy Hour (1/2 price drinks) for OA members for the entire event. Additionally, there will be some nibbles and a DJ starting early.

For those who come late, there will also be some beautiful dancers (male and female) busting some moves on the bar.

Since its founding, Hetrick-Martin Institute has grown from a small, volunteer-led grass-roots advocacy organization into a leading professional provider of social support and programming for at-risk lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or questioning (LGBTQ) youth. HMI youth members, ranging in age from 13 to 24, come from over 300 zip codes throughout all of New York City and the surrounding metropolitan area. They are of all colors and sizes, come from all kinds of backgrounds, and their enthusiasm and creativity is boundless.

HMI is also the host agency for the groundbreaking Harvey Milk High School, devoted to serving at-risk youth and founded in 1985 in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education, which administers the school and is responsible for admissions.
