this is shaping up to be quite a good week for any astoria locals! but, before i get carried away lets start with your local options tonight:
TONIGHT – NOV 19 – ASTORIA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER – STAGED READINGS OF NEW WORK – 7PM – FREE
Since I’ve talked with some of you and a few of you have even expressed an interest in getting more involved with the Astoria Performing Arts Center – tonight would be a great opportunity for you to swing by their new digs – see what they’re all about – maybe even meet a few of the people involved including the playwright featured this evening, Kevin Brofsky. I happen to know Kevin from our time on Emerging Artists Theatre’s playwrights circle – but he’s had a few of his plays done here and there throughout the city since i’ve known him and i’ve never been able to say anything he’s written is “bad” – he’s too good for that. 🙂 So you’re in for a treat of sorts…tonight they’ll be doing a staged reading of his play “The Patient River”
THE PATIENT RIVER by Kevin Brofsky
Directed by José Zayas
Stage Manager – Jennifer Marie Russo*
Lia Aprile, Keith Eric Chappelle, Dan Cozzens, Crystal Finn, Jocelyn Kuritsky, Ryan McCarthy, Gameela Wright
What happens when fate upsets the plans of a married couple from the
generation who was taught that they can “have it all?” What happens when
fear and prejudice take hold of a generation taught they were above
those weaknesses? When it comes to raising our children, do parents not
change with the times?
also i thought some of you would like to know about APAC’s auditions this weekend for their upcoming musical production “Ragtime” – so all you musical theatre people – remember, this is going to be in your own backyard – no more hour long trips home after a long rehearsal! 😉
and for all you girl actors – they’re doing The Childrens Hour in the spring!
ALSO TONIGHT – NOV 19 – BAR36 MARTINI NIGHT – HUMP WEDNESDAY – FREE
After the reading i’ll probably be taking Kevin over to Bar36 for a few (read 4 at least) drinks – and Rocco at Bar36 told me recently they’re going to try a regular weds night thing – just something lowkey – $8 martinis and $5 beers with a free appetizer (early on in the evening) – i don’t think they’ll still be doing the free food after 9pm 🙂 and quite frankly after the reading and comments on the play – i doubt kevin and i will be getting to bar36 before 9:30 anyway!
THURS – NOV 20 – SITE STORE HOLIDAY PREVIEW PARTY – 7PM TO 10PM – FREE
I was flipping through my newly delivered time out ny issue this morning and what do i see but yet another glowing review of Mackenzi’s store SITE and the great holiday gifts you can pick up there from just a card to some crazy new artwork!

FRI – NOV 21 – OUT ASTORIA NOVEMBER MIXER AND GRAND OPENING EVENT FOR LAVISH LOUNGE! – 7PM TO LATE – FREE
We were originally were going to have this at our usual venue but Fernando decided after seeing the size of our little events that it was time that Astoria had another GLBT venue to call our very own.
So this Friday night we’ll be having our November mixer at the new Astoria venue of Lavish Lounge. Starting this Friday night starting at 7PM we’ll have 2-4-1 drinks ALL NIGHT – (except for 9PM when we’ll have OPEN BAR for an hour! so pace yourselves!) – there will be music & entertainment as well as a selection of finger food!
Our mixers get a little bigger each time – and this time you’ll get to have time to be thankful for all that stuff that you had to get on your own – gays have always had their “other” family – the ones who we made friends with when we tried to find people more like ourselves – the ones who were proud of accomplishments even if mom and dad didn’t see it that way – the ones who went to prom with you because you were a friend, even though you were a social outcast – all these people and so many more that i couldn’t begin to mention here – buy them a drink – take them out with you, your chosen family and we’ll all be there to enjoy each other’s company before we scatter to the four winds for the more “legitimate” and usually less entertaining (depending on what you consider to be entertaining) family turkey day!
If you’re not on facebook and would still like to rsvp just head over to the Socializr Evite and RSVP that way!
Any if you’re pressed for anything to do this weekend – you might want to swing by the new exhibits that just opened up at PS1.
See you all this Friday after work! 🙂
Don’t forget! We’re on facebook now!
