Out Astoria Karaoke Mixer tonight at Albatross (and a few other upcoming items!)

tonight we’ll be returning to our old standby in the neighborhood…the place we all went to at the oddest hours because…well it was the only show in town back then…now we have lavish, castle, even hell gate social still for the pioneers who like their crowds more mixed and fabulous…well we never forget our roots and tonight we’ll pay homage to the one who was the only game to play – especially on friday nights when all the musical theatre boys and their friends and fans would pack into Albatross for a night of singing that typically bordered on the surreal!

TONIGHT – FEB 27 – OUT ASTORIA KARAOKE MIXER AT ALBATROSS – 7PM TO LATE – FREE
36-19 24 Avenue, Astoria, NY – 718-204-9045
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=63138646966

Come out to sing, come out to meet your friends and gaybors…come and see the paint job they did on the interior of Albatross if you haven’t been there in that long…a new coat of paint, a fabulous karaoke host, the new Out Astoria membership additions (yes we’re over 650 members now…when the hell did that happen!?)…it’s going to be a fabulous night!

http://www.albatrossbar.com/

Karaoke will be starting at 8pm so come early and scope out your song and your spot on the wait list to sing…with Vanessa Valtre hosting and Jocelyn plying everyone with drink specials from 7pm till the cows come home you’ll be glad you’re in your neighborhood as you stagger home in the wee hours of morning!

ALSO THIS WEEKEND:

Don’t forget to come out to Lavish on Saturday nights for their always evolving drag-tagular performances by Mimi Imfurst and her stable of talent for the new schedule at Lavish!

SUN – MAR 1 – OUT ASTORIA MARCHES IN THE ST PATRICK’S DAY FOR ALL PARADE – 1PM TO 4PM – FREE
Skillman Avenue & 43 Street, Sunnyside, NY – chap@outastoria.com
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=56813421611

As I’m sure most of you have already heard us talking about the all-inclusive-everyone-is-welcome-st-patrick’s-day parade held in Queens every year by our own Out Astorian, Brendan Fay…his St. Patrick’s Day for All Parade has been the pride of the borough for several years and Out Astoria will once again be marching under our own banner!

http://www.stpatsforall.com/

Our Technical Director Chap Day has volunteer to orchestrate and organize Out Astoria’s marching in the parade – a good 30 some people have already signed up but of course since this is an all inclusive parade…we’re always ready to welcome more people who want to march with our group in the parade. If you want to march with Out Astoria just email Chap at:

chap@outastoria.com

and let him know you’ll be meeting up with the rest of us at Skillman Avenue and 43rd Street between 12:30 and 1:00 pm this coming Sunday in Sunnyside for the start of the parade. (make sure you check the weather report before leaving the house – even the start of march can be temperature-iffy) And feel free to bring any friends you want to bring along…remember…it’s all about inclusiveness!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

WED – MAR 11 – OUT ASTORIA MARCH DINNER AT THAI PAVILION – 7PM
37-10 30 Avenue, Astoria, NY – 718-777-5546
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=50720962053

We try to get to Thai Pavilion at least once a year – this is the site of one of Out Astoria’s first official dinners and they first time yours truly helped the guys invite more boys to the event!

You’ll love the food here – while some who are nitpicky foodies will say it’s not authentic enough for their overdeveloped palates – I don’t think it really CAN be considered authentic Thai food unless you’re actually in Thailand, you know? And yes i know it’s not exactly a “vegan” option (i’m working on it, trust me) this is probably one of the more vegetarian friendly places we’ve been to in months – they’re very particular about their vegetarian dishes!

http://www.thaipavilionny.com/

The only Thai food place I like more than Pavilion is up near my digs on Ditmars and only has enough seating for 20 people at most – unlike Thai Pavilion where they can seat our group of 30+ and still have room for more people! So if you haven’t RSVPed, let us know if you’re coming…we’ll save a seat for you!

FRI – MAR 20 – OUT ASTORIA MIXER AT EITHER LAVISH OR QUEENS CASTLE – 7PM TO LATE

We’re still working on this with Mimi – much as we love having Lavish as our standard mixer location – most of you haven’t seen the fabulous digs of Queens Castle yet and since they’re run by the same people – we though we might have the mixer here…however with Friday nights being designated “girls only” night (aka bi and lesbian friends) we have to be sure the girls will be okay with letting the boys in their club house for at least a few hours that night!

I’ll let you know when it’s all confirmed!

COMING UP IN MAY:

Obviously we’ll be offering our usual 2-4-1 drink specials but now they open at 7pm so they’re only doing them until 11pm – which is the official end of our event, but that doesn’t mean you won’t want to stick around later. However along with the usual 2-4-1 drinks special you’ll also be happy to hear we have a $3 cosmo special for happy hour on Friday too!

See the Feb. 20th mixer is the start of the new Lavish Lounge schedule – with new performances – new go go boys – and of course, new DJs! I’m always there right at 7pm – come and say hi before the place gets too packed to find me! :)

And if you haven’t already – head on over to the Lavish Lounge facebook group to join up and keep yourself in the loop with all the new stuff Mimi Imfurst has planned for the coming months!

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=60083984877

If you haven’t been to a mixer yet – make sure you get to this one! If attendance keeps going up like it has been we’re going to have to start an RSVP line for crowd control and move all the furniture out of the front room! :)

but also tonight…

TONIGHT – FRI- FEB 20 – GIRLS NIGHT AT QUEENS CASTLE WITH DJ TRISH SWEET – 7PM TO LATE – NO COVER
Queens Castle is on the corner of 36th Avenue and 33rd Street – it’s just a block away from Lavish (Same owners) – you can’t miss it, it’s the castle-looking building :)

Mimi’s put together a night just for the girls who like girls – with DJ Trish Sweet – they’re gonna give you all 2-4-1 drinks until midnight poured by Sondra herself – I got to check out this venue a few weeks back and I’m rather excited to see how things shape up there in the next few months – especially with…

Dinner tonight at S’Agapo and the weekend roundup for Out Astoria!

First off let me remind you all to get over the the Astoria Performing Arts Center to see their production of Ragtime! A number of Out Astoria members and I took advantage of their generous offer to give us $10 tickets – for those of you who showed up….i think we were all pleasantly surprised with how these people really put on a great show! Was it Broadway quality? Obviously not…but my god, what these people have done with so little…the space alone has been completely transformed into a great playing space with a pretty impressive set….and one performer in particular who was able to hit notes that almost warmed my own coal-black heart. :)

http://www.apacny.org/current-show.htm

I was talking with their house manager today and they can’t really give us the discount again since it was so favourably reviewed…i think only the sat night performance is sold out now…but just remember if you buy your tickets on line before you get to the theatre it’s only $15+fee – at the door it’s $18 but availability is not guaranteed at the door…so remember…pre-purchasing is ALWAYS a good idea for something like this…and if anyone is keen to go again, I’ll be there this coming Sunday, Feb. 15 for the 6:00 PM show with the bf, and two of our friends…if you come to the show, come and find me – we’ll all probably go down to Crescent Lounge again after the show and get tanked!

Tickets are at:

https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/cal/405

now onto the dinner:

WED – FEB 11 – OUT ASTORIA PRE-V-DAY DINNER AT S’AGAPO – 7PM
34-21 34 Avenue, Astoria, NY – 718-626-0303
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=52670434648

since the name of the place translates into “I love you” we figured this would be the perfect place to have our pre-valentines-day-out-Astoria-dinner! And the lovely Barbara is adding the following prix fixe to the regular dinner menu – so you’ll have this option as well as the usual bill of fare…as usual you’ll be responsible for your own drinks!

$23.00 S’Agapo Prix Fixe
Appetizer: Soup, salad or meze plate
Main Course: Chicken souvlaki, keftedes, pastitsio, or vegetarian moussaka
Dessert: Baklava

those of you who’ve eaten here with us before, you know it’s a fantastic place, not just the best Greek food in Astoria but this side of the Atlantic…and with your host Barbara there to wait on you, it probably won’t be long before you’re taking someone else to eat there! if you haven’t already RSVPed for this we are already kind of full but if it’s on the way home for you it never hurts to stop in and say hi – there’s almost always a chair left over for latecomers. :)

now onto this weekend:

I was going to do my usual Friday the 13th night out but it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to do it this month…however…since the next best thing is Saturday night…and since it IS v-day after all…

SAT – FEB 14 – OUT ASTORIA LOVES MIMI IMFURST AND LAVISH LOUNGE – 9PM TO LATE – FREE
34-01 36 Avenue, Astoria, NY – 718-361-0022
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=67528507039

The doors open at 7:00 PM tonight with the usual 2-4-1 drinks until midnight so get your drink on with bartenders Hrysto and Alan before the real shenanigans start up!

At 9:00 PM your go-go boys of the night Tony and Dante will be doing what god intended them to do and also going around the bar with some free shots…and collecting…uh..tips…while TJ the DJ and our own hostess with the mostest, Mimi Imfurst keeps the fun going…and while you’re at it…get yourself on the Lavish Lounge page – Mimi’s always letting you in on little secrets there about free drinks whenever she’s around!

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=60083984877

So bring your valentine…or come and find one…or find a thing of beauty who’ll be a joy at least until sunrise!

and if that weren’t enough you can always go to:

SUN – FEB 15 – OUT ASTORIA VISITS THE ISLAND – 4PM TO 10PM – FREE
35-15 36 Street, Astoria, NY – 347-417-0553
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=54318576614

Timing is everything and with the next day being a bank-holiday Monday – we figured we’d never have a better opportunity for OA to come by the new Sunday night LGBT and “friends of” party that Island employees Gavin and Brian are putting together!

With $5 drink specials on beers, sangria, margaritas and other “Staycation” drinks – not only can you afford to drink your fill…you’ll probably be glad you don’t have to work the next day! (and don’t be surprised if you see a few shot socials before the end of the party too!)

The space is a huge bi-level Med-Coast inspired design and with new local DJ Rigo Starr playing some high energy music we’ll probably all be feeling like it’s summer again!

There is NO cover charge for this party – but if you have a moment please RSVP with the host:

staycationparty@gmail.com

There will not be a list at the door it’s just a way for them to know how many people will be stopping by during the party!

and of course don’t forget our upcoming event:

FRI – FEB 20 – OUT ASTORIA FEBRUARY MIXER AT LAVISH LOUNGE – 7PM TO LATE – FREE
34-01 36 Avenue, Astoria, NY – 718-361-0022
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=58730610954

Astoria’s largest gathering of out Greeks and gays…all the local boys and girls together in one place each month to say hello to all their friends and gaybors!

http://www.lavishloungeny.com/

Obviously we’ll be offering our usual 2-4-1 drink specials but starting on the 18th the lounge opens at 5pm so they’re only doing them until 10pm – which is the official end of our event, but that doesn’t mean you won’t want to stick around later.

See the Feb. 20th mixer is part of the new Lavish Lounge schedule – with new performances – new go go boys – and of course, the new DJ for Friday nights, our favourite ex-astorian, Kevin Graves!

I’m always there right at 7pm – but feel free to swing by before that to take advantage of the early “after work” happy hour starting at 5pm!

See you on the 20th!

Ragtime, fun time, and upcoming things…

So tonight is the little Out Astoria discounted night i put together for the facebook group site….don’t be mad if you didn’t hear about it – honestly it was mostly just a test run to see how many/who would be interested in going to see the show on opening night…and it’s STILL kind of a test run…see untill i see how many of the 30 RSVPs actually show up, i won’t know if it’ll be worth their time to extend us the discount again…so if you’re reading this and you RSVPed YES – I will know if you didn’t show up :) heheh.

Seriously though they were just doing the neighborly thing – mostly we were talking about the Astoria Performing Arts Center setting up a discount code for members of Out Astoria but right now they’re not on a system that allows them to do it for only specific performances…so they were nice enough to let us have the $10 tickets by just letting us give them a list of the RSVPs.

TONIGHT – FEB 5 – OUT ASTORIA GOES TO THE APAC OPENING NIGHT PERFORMANCE OF RAGTIME – 8PM – $10 WITH RSVP
Auditorium of The Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (APAC) at 30-44 Crescent Street, Astoria, NY – 718-393-7505

if you didn’t RSVP the show is pretty much sold out tonight – there will be a wait list forming but I have another option for you on another night (more on that in a bit). If you DID rsvp for tonight – you’ll be on the Out Astoria list for a $10 ticket (normally it’s $18 at the door) – it’ll be under the name you have on your facebook profile (yes, Stizzle that means you heheh). Just remember you MUST be there by 7:45 PM or they’ll start giving up our spots to people on the wait list.

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=47266603623

now don’t be getting all sneaky and trying to put your name on the list now – i’m just posting the facebook invite so people can get directions and remmeber that they DID rsvp :)

but if you want information about the show in general just go to:

http://www.apacny.org/current-show.htm

they’re performing all this month – hell i’m actually going to see it with some friends on sunday, feb. 15 if anyone wants to go that night. BUT if anyone DID want to go tonight and were just too slow to RSVP – or they want to see the show but could not go tonight…the powers that be at APAC have already extended us the option of putting together a list of people who would like $10 tickets to the Sunday, February 8 show at 6:00 PM. If you want to see the show that sunday…email me back with your full name…and the full name of anyone who is coming with you…there are no plus ones for this. :)

so there you have it…and based on attendance tonight we might be doing this again before the end of their run!

oh and there may be a few of us dropping by crescent avenue lounge after the show for a cocktail…you know…to discuss the creative merrits of the show. :)

http://www.lavishloungeny.com/

This is my yearly tradition – whenever we get a Friday the 13th – we go and get happy hour right after work and get good and tipsy…and this will be a celebration two-fold – with Mimi Imfurst taking over the entertainment booking for Lavish Lounge and getting them to extend their hours to include a more “happy hour esque” time (aka 5pm to 10pm starting next week) and if that weren’t enough – she took my suggestion (and her own experience with him) to get our favourite ex-astorian dj extrordinaire Kevin Graves to come and spin for us on Friday nights starting on this lucky friday!

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=60083984877

Mimi has even set up a place on facebook – a Lavish Lounge group where she’ll be posting all sorts of fun upcoming things – her new plan for the weekly schedule including a bingo night and the karaoke night you’ve all been waiting for – and of course a place for you all to post your comments/suggestions – so make sure you go and join that group – she’s operating it already and you’re gonna like what she’s got in store for the astoria mo’s :)

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=58730610954
