Out Astoria Dinner Tonight at Thai Pavilion (and upcoming events!)

Last week was a blast what with the trivia night at Sunswick, karaoke at Lavish afterwards (more on that in a bit) and the ad-hoc Friday night with Kevin Graves and Mimi’s new Dirty Boy party at Lavish Lounge with some pictures that were taken and then had to be promptly deleted from my camera in order to protect the not-so-innocent…okay so maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration but if you were there and saw the three bar patrons up on the bar dancing with the two go go boys…you’d know that Lavish is really starting to pick up some steam locally!

But in lieu of cheap shock value (as much as I love it) I’m attaching a photo of your new Friday night crew at Lavish Lounge – I think it came out rather well given that it was such a non-planned photo!

Anyway about tonight:

TONIGHT – MAR 11 – OUT ASTORIA DINNER AT THAI PAVILION – 7PM
37-10 30 Avenue, Astoria, NY – 718-777-5546
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=50720962053

We try to get to Thai Pavilion at least once a year – this is the site of one Out Astoria’s first official dinners and the first time yours truly helped the boys invite more boys to the event! You’ll love the food here – while some who are nitpicky foodies will say it’s not authentic enough for their overdeveloped palates – but then again, for it to be truly authentic it’d have to be in Thailand you know? 🙂

http://www.thaipavilionny.com/

The only Thai food place I like more than Pavilion is up near my place and only has enough seating for like 20 people…unlike Pavilion where we can seat over 30! Which is good to know since right now we’re expecting about 40!

Hope to see you there! (I’ll be the one stuffing his face with pineapple fried rice.)

but after dinner:

TONIGHT – MAR 11 – SING FOR YOUR LIFE KARAOKE AT LAVISH LOUNGE – 9PM TO LATE – FREE
34-01 36 Avenue at 34 Street, Astoria, NY – 718-361-0022
http://www.lavishloungeny.com/

Aside from your fabulous host Rebecca Glasscock (yes, the one who’s in the final three in Rupaul’s Drag Race) who looks as cute as a boy as he does as a girl, you’ll have $3 martinis during the 7pm to 11pm happy hour with the usual 2-4-1 well/beer deals and karaoke starting at 9pm with that swanky new digital karaoke system with 17,000 songs!

I myself was shocked to see how many people were still at karaoke last Wednesday night after my group got there from trivia night – our night ran long and we didn’t get to Lavish until after 12:30am…and sure enough we walked in to a group of lesbians singing a song i couldn’t even identify! 😉

so if any of you are up for it I’ll be heading on down to lavish after dinner tonight! I can’t make it a crazy late night like last week but i want to see Rebbecca do her thing again!

and don’t forget to join the lavish lounge group on facebook…they’re only open 5 days a week right now but that’s libel to change in the coming months with new activities on new nights! 😉

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=60083984877

and here’s the most well rounded weekend up i could get you:

The new Thurs night party at lavish with the very season’d DJ Aaron Elvis – along with your usual bevy of go go boys and $3 margaritas, 2-4-1 well drinks/beer from 7pm to 11pm – the longest happy hour in the hood!

oh and don’t forget:

34-01 36 Avenue at 34 Street, Astoria, NY – 718-361-0022

I told most of you who were at Lavish last week for Kevin Grave’s inaugural night that he wasn’t going to be there this Friday…but for those of you who weren’t there, Kevin will be in Paris, France this Friday night opening for the amazing Larry Tee…yeah…amazing right? But of course in his place will be the lovely Corey Tut who’s adorable song “so what” i have never really been able to get out of my head for the last 2-3 years.

44-02 23 Street, Long Island City, NY – 718-392-0722

Some of you remember this company and their hilarious take on Charles Busch’s “Vampire Lesbians of Sodom” that a bunch of us went to go see last summer – well this spring they’re bringing us a more somber tale but you know they’ll put their own unique spin on it as well.

They’re running till March 28 and tickets are only $15!

ALSO:

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS FOR THE 18TH ANNUAL DIXON PLACE HOT! FESTIVAL

I got an email from Earl Dax today asking if I knew anyone in the Astoria scene who would be interested in submitting an application to perform in this, the oldest, continuing festival of queer performance in the world…now any of you who I’m close enough to and know you would be interested have already heard from me and been given the information.

http://www.hotfestival.org/rfp.html

But for those of you who don’t know about it, might be interested, might know someone who might be interested…by all means…send them to the site…print up the PDF there and give it to them (I’m actually going to attach it here too for you).

THE USUAL “IN CLOSING” BLURB:

Remember – we’re on Facebook now and if you’re not already friends with the Out Astoria profile you should friend us!
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1169807844

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6026204257

And of course, don’t forget – we’re also on Why Leave Astoria?! – I went to a round table discussion they were having and these people are a hoot – even if you’re not gay you can get a lot from poking around their site – there’s tons of stuff going on locally that even my jaded ass didn’t know about! (Including a Trivia Tournament that Out Astoria has a team involved with these days – you can ask me if you want to know more about that!)
http://www.whyleaveastoria.com/group/outastoria

okay i guess that’s all for now!

talk with you over some pad-thai tonight! 🙂
