Late September Out Astoria Happenings!

Here we all are in the final days of indian summer – turning over slowly to the slight chill in the air of the coming winter – but before you take your jacket out of storage, come on out and celebrate your favorite hangouts in your own little neighborhood!

Friday, September 24

40-17 30 Avenue, Astoria, NY – 347-642-4840

The Mix boys and girls are hosting us again for a little Out Astoria indian summer send-off! As usual, for $5 the first hour (8pm to 9pm) we’ll be doing an open bar for well drinks/etc – but don’t be shy about asking for some of Zuzie’s amazing foodstuffs if you need a little nibble!

So come out Friday night and enjoy what will probably be a fantastically fair weather evening in the neighborhood!

Speaking of Zuzie’s

Julius Caesar at The Secret Theatre – 3PM & 8PM – $18
44-02 23 Street, Long Island City, NY – 718-392-0722

Pick up your baseball bat, sharpen your butterfly knife, shine up your brass knuckles, and choose a side as The Queens Players explore this classic story of politics, power, and betrayal. The third installment of director Richard Mazda’s gangland Shakespeare series brings you into the center of Rome, where civil strife and political infighting have ripped apart the very fabric of the fragile democracy. Resources are scarce, battle lines are drawn, and even those with the noblest intentions can’t escape without blood on their hands. This production’s environmental style makes use of the multiple performance spaces at The Secret Theatre, carrying the audience through the play’s desolate, battle scarred world. It is a Julius Caesar that is not just seen, but experienced, with an immediacy that is in keeping with Shakespeare’s timeless drama!

Just head over to the Secret Theatre’s Ticket Calendar and choose your performance and don’t forget to pick up a few inexpensive beers at the box office before the performance (and a few more at intermission)…Shakespeare was meant to be enjoyed with some beer!
