Before we get the specifics about tonight’s Holiday Party, I’ve got a short public service announcement about becoming an Out Astoria Sponsor Member.
We at Out Astoria love all of our brothers and sisters, friends and gaybors within and without the little neighborhood we call our own. The support from those of you who have registered as members has been fantastic, almost TOO fantastic! We’ve had some of our inter/outer borough friends sign up for membership, while not being fully aware of the residential restriction placed on being an Out Astoria Sponsor Member. Because of the voting privileges that come with being an OA Sponsor Member, we must restrict membership and allow only those who live in Astoria/LIC (specifically those with a permanent residence in zip codes: 11101, 11102, 11103, 11104, 11105, 1006). In other words, think of it as any real election/elected position–if you want to run for office and/or vote in a local election, you must be a resident of the district. Once the new steering committee is elected in January 2011, we hope to introduce a new tier of membership that anyone can sign up for and enjoy the discounted benefits, but without voting privileges. Until then, just remember both members and non-members are ALWAYS welcome at our events!
That said, lets get to the information everyone is looking for:
40-17 30 Avenue, Astoria, NY – 347-642-4840
During this, the season of traditions, we feel it’s time to keep one of our own. The snow is coming and the nights are getting longer – but let’s make the most of our holiday spirit at our favorite local lounge. Each year, we at Out Astoria try to bring all of our friends and gay-bors together at our own little year-end holiday gathering…and our little gathering manages to get a little bit bigger each year!
So, to celebrate the holidays appropriately we’ve set up a dandy little party pre-fix for our guests! With $10 for sponsor members/$15 for non-sponsor members you get access to our 2-hour (8-10pm) open well bar/beer and passed hors d’oeuvres created on site by Zuzie herself (just for our special gathering)! Of course, even if you’re running late from work that evening, make sure you swing by, there’s always a fun contingent of our people still celebrating until late!
For those who have already registered for an Out Astoria Sponsor Membership – we will have the membership list at the door. Or take a moment to register your membership now!
You can pay the $10 yearly dues via PayPal, or in person at the party when you collect your membership card! We’ll also be accepting membership registrations at this event, just look for the guy with the paper registrations!
And you’ll also get to meet and greet some of the fantastic candidates who are running for the Out Astoria Steering Committee – If you’re interested in nominating someone or even yourself just remember that only members are allowed to run and/or vote in the steering committee election this January!
Also, as we did at our June Out Astoria mixer and fundraiser for the Ali Forney Center, we’ll have a donation box at the front door of the holiday party for any OA member who’d like to get into the holiday spirit by bringing donations for the residents of the Ali Forney Center’s emergency shelter in Astoria for homeless LGBT youth. We’re looking to collect personal items such as shampoo, deodorant, soap/bodywash, or new socks and underwear (in their original package); pantry items in boxes, bags, or cans such as pasta and pasta sauce, mac and cheese, rice, soup, canned veggies and beans, or condiments such as ketchup, salt, hot sauce, or barbecue sauce; and general-use items such as paper towels, napkins, and heavy-duty paper plates.
If you are interested in donating gift cards for Ali Forney Center clients, visit:
If you’d like to make a donation of used (but still in good condition) pillows, sheets, blankets, coats, hats, gloves, or other larger items, e-mail email@example.com and put “shelter donation” in subject line; we’ll try to arrange a pick-up.
We’ll see you all tonight at the party!
Eat, drink, be merry, and don’t forget to tip your bartenders!
