The month of Pride is upon us and as before we start out with our pre-pride festivities leading up to the big day on June 5 in Queens – we’ll start out with a lesser celebrated area of gay pride and that’s the role of the volunteer! Currently Out Astoria is looking for a few members to help with weekly food deliveries to the emergency shelter for LGBT youth in Astoria (especially if you have a car, or access to one). If you’d like to get involved, please contact Out Astoria President, Brent Gallenberger via facebook or e-mail.
35-33 36 Street, Astoria, NY – 718-383-1001
We’re going to kick off the month of Pride right! On Thursday, June 2, Out Astoria will be partnering with our big sister organization the Queens Lesbian and Gay Pride Committee at everyone’s favorite swanky Astoria beer garden Studio Square!
Every Out Astorian is invited to this dual mixer from our two organizations – and there is NO COVER!
From 7-8 PM there’ll be $2 drink specials – and DJ/Music from 7-11 PM.
21 & Over only, they will need to see ID before they let you in.
It may be a school night but you don’t want to miss this great opportunity to meet and greet our friends and gaybors from the next big neighborhood over!
SUN – JUNE 5 – QUEENS PRIDE 2011 – PARADE AND FESTIVAL – 12-6PM – FREE!
The parade kicks off at Noon. There is a Reviewing Stand on the parade route where our hosts will announce the groups and the judges will cast their votes on parade participants to win the “Queenie Awards”. The parade starts at 85th Street and 37th Avenue, and goes down 37th Avenue, ending at 75th Street. Come be a part of this historic event on Sunday, June 5th 2011.
The Multicutural Festival begins at Noon and ends at 6:00PM. The Multicultural Festival is on 37th Road and stretches from 73rd Street to 77th Street.
Right smack in the middle of it all is the Main Stage featuring rally speakers, community group performances and fabulous talent. The Main Stage starts at 1:30PM and the last act ends at 6:00PM. Our own Sunday Morning Mimosa will be performing and hosting the Main stage from 1:30 to 3:30PM!
You can also visit the Atlantis Stage run by Club Atlantis at the intersection of 77th Street and 37th Road.
78-23 37 Avenue, Jackson Heights, NY – 718-426-7272
If the heat of the parade and festival is too much for you, swing by Novo Restaurant and Lounge on the parade route and refresh yourself in air conditioning with a Barefoot Mimosa! Portions of proceeds from champagne drinks from Barefoot Wines will benefit Queens Pride!
And don’t forget next week:
12-23 Astoria Boulevard, Astoria, NY – 718-606-8439
Please join Out Astoria for dinner and/or dessert at the oasis of west Astoria that is the beautiful Astor Bake Shop. Browse their menu beforehand. We’ve heard the red velvet cake is a must-order item. We hope to see you at our first dinner there!
