Inclusiveness is one of Out Astoria’s core values as an LGBT organization. Participation in Out Astoria’s events, activities, and Internet fora is open to all individuals regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, age, or creed. Attendance at Out Astoria events is open to all individuals as long as they meet any requirements that might be set by venues for all attendees equally such as admission fee, dress code, or minimum age.
Out Astoria is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. In order to maintain its not-for-profit status, Out Astoria must refrain from endorsing or appearing to endorse political candidacies or organizations. While political candidates or office holders are as welcome to attend Out Astoria event as anyone else, they must refrain from campaigning or distributing political campaign literature and/or materials at Out Astoria events. Out Astoria’s mailing lists and Internet fora are also likewise closed to political candidates and organizations for the purpose of campaigning. If a political candidate or office holder attends an Out Astoria event it is purely in the same social capacity as any other attendee, and as such Out Astoria is not required to give “equal time” at a future event to any opposition candidate or office holder who did not attend.
Out Astoria aims to provide a friendly, entertaining, and inviting atmosphere at its events. Therefore Out Astoria reserves the right to request that an individual who is disruptive at an event not attend future Out Astoria events. Examples of disruptive behavior include, but are not limited to, unwanted sexual advances and/or inappropriate touching of other attendees, excessive rudeness to fellow attendees or staff members at an event venue, and using an event to actively promote a business, cause, or other enterprise not associated with Out Astoria. Such a decision to bar future attendance rests with the President of Out Astoria and is final.
